I began my roofing career in 1990. I grew up in a small town in rural Oregon where job opportunities were limited, and when a roofing company rolled into our sleepy little town to roof the local Safeway, that opportunity literally knocked on my door. I jumped at the chance to earn some money, and upon completion, was asked to join the team full time in Portland, Oregon.

I embraced it and lived, worked, and thrived in the industry for the next 23 years. After 5 years of tutelage, I was promoted to site Foreman. Foreman duties involved project management, crew coordination,

material ordering, and handling, as well as every phase of roofing from set up to break down. Within a few years of this promotion, I found myself in charge of multi-million-dollar projects, and at times, coordinating several at a time.

In 2013, I came to Alaska to visit my father. I fell in love with the landscape, the slower pace, the abundant wildlife, and most of all the people. Although Fairbanks is larger than the 2300 resident town I grew up in, it felt the same. I made the decision to relocate and went to work for a local roofing company where I ran several large projects at UAF, as well as Fort Wainwright, and Eielson AFB.

While roofing here in Alaska, I observed two things that made my decision to start my own company.

1. The larger companies were focused on commercial projects, putting a much lower priority on the residential customer.

2. There seems to be a general lack of knowledge when it comes to flashing details.

There is A LOT of substandard work being done on residential homes, and roofing in the Pacific Northwest with an average annual rainfall of 40” taught me that EVERY detail is important.

I started Northern Rain Roofing with the goal of providing excellent service and workmanship to the residential customer. I am personally involved in all projects by either working physically on the project or via constant communication to my crew lead via cell phone at any hour of the day as needed. This is to ensure and guarantee that every detail is done correctly and to the highest industry standard.
